Empire Tahoe Premium 48″ Direct Vent Gas Fireplace (DVP48FP)
The Tahoe Premium 48 is the largest fireplace in Empire's Tahoe Premium line — a direct-vent gas firebox producing up to 30,000 BTUs, built around a 22″ × 42½″ tempered glass viewing area and a Slope Glaze burner that creates a tall, layered flame across the four-piece log set. The Premium's extra firebox depth gives the logs room to stack, which is what separates its flame picture from the shallower Deluxe models.
Direct venting means it draws combustion air from outside and exhausts outside through a sealed 5″ × 8″ pipe, so no chimney is required and room air stays undisturbed. The vent can run from the top or the rear, giving real flexibility on interior walls. Choose your control system at checkout: standing-pilot Millivolt with an on/off switch, Intermittent Pilot (IPI) with electronic ignition, or the Multi-Function package that adds a variable remote controlling both flame height and blower speed. Blower-equipped versions of the Millivolt and IPI models are also available.

Sold Separately — a front is required
Empire requires a fireplace barrier on this model. You'll choose either a barrier, or a door frame with barrier plus a door set. Outer steel frames, bottom trim, arch louvers, and brick or porcelain liners are optional finishing pieces. Venting components, flex gas line, embers, remotes, and wall thermostats are also sold separately.
Warranty
Empire provides a limited lifetime parts warranty on the combustion chamber and heat exchanger, with five years of limited labor coverage. All other components carry a limited five-year parts and labor warranty. Remote controls, thermostats, lights, accessories, and replacement parts carry a limited one-year parts warranty. Coverage applies to the original purchaser, is not transferable, and requires installation by a qualified technician with operation per the owner's manual. Keep your proof of purchase to establish the warranty period.
Is the Tahoe Premium 48 right for your space?
This is the widest firebox in the Tahoe Premium range, with a 22″ × 42½″ glass opening and up to 30,000 BTUs — enough to anchor and heat a large room. It needs a framed opening of roughly 37¾″ H × 49⅜″ W × 19⅞″ D, so confirm your framing before ordering.
Buy the Tahoe Premium 48 if:
- You have a large wall and want the widest viewing area in the Premium line
- You want the highest heat output in the range at 30,000 BTUs
- You need chimney-free installation with top or rear venting
Consider another model if:
- Your framing is narrower — the Tahoe Premium 42″ needs about 43⅜″ of width and produces up to 28,000 BTUs
- You want more door and louver styles — the 42″ offers rectangle, mission, and arch fronts, while this model uses rectangle doors and arch louvers
- You prefer a shallower firebox — see the Tahoe Deluxe 48″
- You want a frameless look with the barrier built in — see the Tahoe Clean-Face Premium

Frequently asked questions
How much heat does it produce?
Up to 30,000 BTU/hr at maximum, turning down to roughly 20,500 BTU/hr — the highest output in the Tahoe Premium range.
Do I need anything else to complete the installation?
Yes. Empire requires a fireplace barrier on this model, so you'll need either a barrier or a door frame with barrier plus doors — these are not included with the firebox. Venting components are also ordered separately based on your run. Call us and we'll build the full parts list for your installation.
What size opening do I need to frame?
Approximately 37¾″ high × 49⅜″ wide × 19⅞″ deep. Always check the installation manual before framing, since clearances and venting requirements affect the final opening.
Does it need a chimney?
No. It's a direct vent appliance using sealed 5″ × 8″ venting that can exit through the top or the rear, drawing combustion air from outside and exhausting outside. That keeps room air sealed off from the firebox.
What's the difference between the control options?
Millivolt uses a standing pilot with an on/off switch and needs no household power to run. Intermittent Pilot (IPI) uses electronic ignition so there's no continuously burning pilot. Multi-Function adds a variable remote that controls both flame height and blower speed.
What does the warranty cover?
Empire covers the combustion chamber and heat exchanger with a limited lifetime parts warranty plus five years of labor, other components for five years parts and labor, and remotes, thermostats and accessories for one year. Installation must be by a qualified technician, and coverage applies to the original purchaser.
How is it delivered?
Free and fully insured by freight carrier, with tracking and a scheduled delivery appointment. Installation should be carried out by a qualified gas appliance installer in line with local codes. Our 24/7 US-based support can help you prepare.
