Empire Tahoe Premium 42″ Direct Vent Gas Fireplace (DVP42FP)
The Tahoe Premium 42 pairs a deep Premium firebox with a Slope Glaze burner, producing a tall, layered flame through the four-piece log set and up to 28,000 BTUs of heat. It's the mid-size choice in Empire's Tahoe Premium range — substantial enough to anchor a main living space, while fitting a framed opening about six inches narrower than the 48″ model.
As a direct vent appliance it draws combustion air from outside and exhausts outside through sealed 5″ × 8″ venting, so no chimney is needed and room air stays sealed off from the firebox. Venting runs from the top or the rear. Pick your control system at checkout: standing-pilot Millivolt with an on/off switch, Intermittent Pilot (IPI) with electronic ignition, or the Multi-Function package adding a variable remote for both flame height and blower speed. Blower versions of the Millivolt and IPI models are available.
This size also carries Empire's widest choice of fronts — rectangle, rectangle mission, arch, and arch mission doors, with mission or arch louvers in black or hammered pewter, plus aged brick, herringbone brick, stacked limestone, and black porcelain liners.

Warranty
Empire provides a limited lifetime parts warranty on the combustion chamber and heat exchanger, with five years of limited labor coverage. All other components carry a limited five-year parts and labor warranty. Remote controls, thermostats, lights, accessories, and replacement parts carry a limited one-year parts warranty. Is the Tahoe Premium 42 right for your space?
This is the mid-size Tahoe Premium — the same deep firebox and Slope Glaze flame as the 48″, producing up to 28,000 BTUs in a framed opening about six inches narrower, and with the broadest range of door and louver styles in the line.
Buy the Tahoe Premium 42 if:
- Your framed opening is around 43⅜″ wide
- You want to choose between rectangle, mission, and arch front styles
- You want a deep firebox and chimney-free top or rear venting
Consider another model if:
- You have a wider wall and want more heat — the Tahoe Premium 48″ reaches 30,000 BTUs with a 22″ × 42½″ glass opening
- Your opening is narrower — see the Tahoe Premium 36″
- You prefer a shallower firebox — see the Tahoe Deluxe 42″
- You want a frameless look with the barrier built in — see the Tahoe Clean-Face Premium 42″

Frequently asked questions
How much heat does it produce?
Up to 28,000 BTU/hr. If you need more output for a larger room, the Tahoe Premium 48″ reaches 30,000 BTU/hr.
Do I need anything else to complete the installation?
Yes. Empire requires a fireplace barrier on this model, so you'll need either a barrier or a door frame with barrier plus doors — these are not included with the firebox. Venting components are ordered separately based on your run. Call us and we'll build the full parts list for your installation.
What size opening do I need to frame?
Approximately 37¾″ high × 43⅜″ wide × 19⅞″ deep. Always check the installation manual before framing, since clearances and venting requirements affect the final opening.
Does it need a chimney?
No. It's a direct vent appliance using sealed 5″ × 8″ venting that can exit through the top or rear, drawing combustion air from outside and exhausting outside.
What front and finish options are available?
Doors come in rectangle, rectangle mission, arch, and arch mission styles. Louvers are available in mission or arch profiles in black or hammered pewter, and liners in aged brick, herringbone brick, stacked limestone, or black porcelain.
What does the warranty cover?
Empire covers the combustion chamber and heat exchanger with a limited lifetime parts warranty plus five years of labor, other components for five years parts and labor, and remotes, thermostats and accessories for one year. Installation must be by a qualified technician, and coverage applies to the original purchaser.
How is it delivered?
Free and fully insured by freight carrier, with tracking and a scheduled delivery appointment. Installation should be carried out by a qualified gas appliance installer in line with local codes. Our 24/7 US-based support can help you prepare.
